OC Chip Lindsey leaves Michigan for same role at Missouri
Michigan offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey watches warm up ahead of the Central Michigan game at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025. Veteran offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey is leaving Michigan to accept the same position at Missouri.
He spent just one season with the Wolverines, but his future was in limbo in Ann Arbor given the sudden firing on Dec. 10 of head coach Sherrone Moore. Michigan has yet to hire a full-time replacement.
"We are excited to welcome Chip Lindsey to Mizzou to lead our offense," head coach Elijah Drinkwitz said Sunday. "He does a tremendous job of not only coaching and developing players but organizing and implementing the offense. He is an excellent offensive mind with wide range of experience from high school to offensive coordinator to college head coach. Chip is a tremendous addition to our coaching staff and someone who can seamlessly transition into the job."
His stops as offensive coordinator also have included Auburn, Arizona State, UCF and Southern Miss. Before arriving at Michigan, Lindsey was the OC at North Carolina, where he worked to develop quarterback Drake Maye, now with the New England Patriots.
At Michigan in 2025, his offense produced 213.2 rushing yards per game, good for 15th nationally.
"This is one of the most attractive coordinator jobs in the country," Lindsey said Sunday about the Missouri opening. "The commitment and infrastructure in place from an organizational standpoint and the talent on the field is truly exciting."
Lindsey, 51, has head coaching experience as well. An Alabama native, he was head coach at Troy (2019-21) and produced an overall record of 15-19.
With the Tigers, he replaces Kirby Moore, who was named the head coach at Washington State earlier this month.
